Richard III Synopsis

Kevin Spacey is directed by Sam Mendes at the Old Vic in the title role of this Shakespearean drama. The play, which begins with the famous line “Now is the winter of our discontent”, concludes the three year old Bridge Project between the Old Vic theatre, the Brooklyn Academy of Music and Mendes’ Neal Street Productions. One of the Bard’s most memorable plays, Richard III depicts the bloody rise to power of the hunchbacked prince, who schemes to succeed his brother, King Edward IV, on the throne of England. After orchestrating the downfall his rivals, including the murders of the two child princes, Richard inherits the crown he craves. However, his crimes have left him dangerously isolated and an open rebellion must be faced on Bosworth Field.
