Show synopsis:

Hertfordshire Music Service is delighted to be presenting a showcase of performances by young people from across the county at its Gala concert.

The concerts will celebrate the rich diversity of the service’s work to develop music-making with groups ranging from young people at risk of exclusion to those working towards studying performance in academies of music.

Over 2,100 Key Stage 2 pupils (age 9 – 11) from more than 100 Hertfordshire primary schools will join together in a massed choir conducted by Rufus Frowde to sing songs celebrating the Olympic year and associated national and sporting themes.

This year’s Gala will celebrate the creativity of musicians from Hertfordshire, both established and aspiring, opening with a newly composed Fanfare for the Hertfordshire Schools’ Symphony Orchestra by a Hertfordshire pupil, conducted by John Brennan.

The programme will also include “The Winner’s Dream” composed by Director of Music at Presdales School, Paul Burrell, and close with “What a Joy It Is” ccouommissioned for these concerts from local composers Michael Davidson and Daniel Basford.

In both these pieces, the musicians and singers will be joined by dancers from Queens School in Bushey.

Young Songwriter Ambassadors from the Music Service’s Hertfordshire Songwriter 2012 Competition and the established County Youth Brass band will also be featured both before and during the concerts, showcasing the range of musical styles the service supports, and the wealth of young talent in the county.
