Metamorphosis Titian 2012 Synopsis
New choreography, great art and the unique qualities of The Royal Ballet in collaboration with the National Gallery combine to make the final programme of this Season truly special. Metamorphosis: Titian 2012 is part of the London 2012 Festival, and is inspired by the great art works Diana and Actaeon, The Death of Actaeon and Diana and Callisto, on display together in the National Gallery throughout this summer. Seven choreographers, working with leading artists as designers and The Royal Ballet, with music from major composers of today, makes for a striking and contemporary collaboration of the arts. Alastair Marriott and Christopher Wheeldon collaborate with Mark Wallinger and Mark-Anthony Turnage; Kim Brandstrup and Royal Ballet Resident Choreographer Wayne McGregor team up with Conrad Shawcross and Nico Muhly; finally, Liam Scarlett, Will Tuckett and Jonathan Watkins work with Chris Ofili and Jonathan Dove. Barry Wordsworth, Music Director of The Royal Ballet, Dominic Grier and Thomas Seligman conduct in this final programme of retiring Director of The Royal Ballet, Monica Mason, whose contribution to the Company during more than fifty years is celebrated in this, her own focus on the future of ballet and the vibrant talents within the Company today.
