Viscera / Infra / Fools Paradise Synopsis

This Royal Ballet evening of 21st-century work opens with Viscera, Liam Scarlett's highly praised commission for Miami City Ballet, set to Lowell Liebermann's rhythmically vital First Piano Concerto. The ballet's two dynamic and intense sections for 14 dancers bookending a contrasting central pas de deux are guaranteed to show off the skills of the Company.

Wayne McGregor's hauntingly beautiful Infra, set to Max Richter's hypnotic score and with stunning set designs by Julian Opie and lighting design by Lucy Carter, returns to the Company for its second revival. With sinuous choreography, Infra is guaranteed to linger in your mind.

The evening ends with The Royal Ballet's first staging of Christopher Wheeldon's Fool's Paradise, written for Wheeldon's former company Morphoses in 2007. Set to a lusciously romantic re-working of Joby Talbot's film score The Dying Swan (originally commissioned by the BFI to accompany a 1916 silent film) this elegant and nuanced study in partnerwork is a delicate meditation on Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream.
